About PTA Tax in Pakistan
What is PTA Tax?
The PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) tax is a regulatory duty imposed on mobile phones imported into Pakistan. This tax ensures that only registered and approved devices can operate on Pakistani mobile networks.
Passport vs CNIC Registration
Registering with a passport typically results in lower tax rates and is intended for personal use devices. CNIC registration has higher tax rates and may be used for commercial imports.
Tax Components
PTA tax consists of multiple components: customs duty, sales tax, income tax, and regulatory duty. The total tax varies based on device value and registration method.
Device Registration Process
After paying PTA tax, your device will be registered within 48 hours for passport registration and 5-7 working days for CNIC registration. Unregistered devices stop working after 60 days.
Tax Calculation Formula:
Passport Registration: Total Tax = (Device Value × 10% Customs Duty) + (Device Value × 17% Sales Tax) + (Device Value × 5% Income Tax)
CNIC Registration: Total Tax = (Device Value × 20% Customs Duty) + (Device Value × 17% Sales Tax) + (Device Value × 10% Income Tax) + (Device Value × 5% Regulatory Duty)

This calculator provides estimates based on current PTA tax regulations for 2025-26. Actual tax amounts may vary based on specific device models and exact valuation.
